Survey data operations

Turn survey audio into text that stays attached to the right answer.

Make existing open-ended recordings usable for your data-processing team. AutoQC offers scoped survey transcription with the supplied respondent, question and project identifiers preserved alongside each response, plus translation where agreed.

Discuss your transcription workflow

The transcript is useful only if you can join it back

Your survey has recorded open-ended answers, but a folder of text files is not enough for coding or analysis. Each response needs the correct project, respondent and question. Define that linkage at the start so your team can reconcile the export with the survey records and inspect mapping exceptions.

Start with your workflow

The inputs that make the analysis useful

Existing audio and identifier rules

Provide the recordings, project and respondent keys, question IDs and source filenames. If filenames carry the identifiers, include the parsing rules and examples of exceptions.

Questionnaire and text requirements

Supply question labels, source and output languages, and the required export structure. Choose verbatim transcription, cleaned text or translation according to how the answers will be used.

Retain identifiers beside the text

Scope an export where every transcript row carries its supplied keys and source filename. Preserve those identifiers when a translation is added, so the source-language text and translated response can remain paired. If a question key is missing or ambiguous, flag the mapping for review instead of guessing where the answer belongs.

Choose how spoken answers become written responses

Verbatim text preserves spoken wording, including repetitions where required. Cleaned text improves readability under agreed editing rules. Translation creates text in the requested output language. These choices should preserve meaning and remain explicit; a short summary should not silently replace the respondent’s full answer.

Handle clips and full interviews appropriately

A question-specific CAPI recording may map directly to one response. A longer CATI interview may need question segmentation, speaker handling and consideration of answers given out of order. Evaluate those input formats separately, using the actual recording structure rather than assuming that one mapping approach fits every survey.

Make batch exceptions actionable

Agree how to report missing files, duplicate filenames, unclear speech and language changes. Define which passages need correction, who reviews them and how corrected text returns to the final export. Reconcile input records and output rows so your team can see what was processed and what still needs attention.

Fictional teaching example, not actual client output. The evaluation will establish the required output structure.

Agree the data asset your team needs

Scope the languages, audio formats, linkage rules, transcription style and correction process on representative material. File ingestion, longer-interview segmentation and custom exports are agreed for the project. The deliverable is linked text for your processing workflow; fieldwork acceptance and research synthesis can be scoped as separate jobs.

Questions about this workflow

Can we receive original text and translation together?

Yes, scope a paired output that retains the same respondent and question keys for both. Agree how uncertain source passages and translation corrections should be marked.

Do we need to upload recordings to inquire?

No. Start by describing the recording format, identifier structure and required output. Appropriate sample access is agreed after contact, before evaluating transcription quality and linkage.

Research fieldwork quality control

Your fieldwork batch is ready for processing, but checking a few interviews leaves questions unanswered. Did the respondent meet the study criteria? Does the entered answer match what they said? Was a required probe used? Bring those questions into one study-specific review, with the record and question identifiers your team already uses.

Qualitative research analysis

Your interviews are complete, but the insight is scattered across long conversations. You need to compare experiences, understand why respondents differ and build an argument for the study objectives. Start with the guide and the analysis grid you want to work in, then connect each finding back to the relevant source.
